S3C Falkirk Wheel event features in Holyrood Magazine
The highly successful ‘Meeting of the Minds; Smart Cities’ event held by the Scottish Sensor Systems Centre(S3C) and hosted by ‘The Falkirk Wheel’ has been featured in ‘The Holyrood Magazine’. The event was held to further develop the interaction between Scotland’s leading Universities and industry to develop the country’s capability in sensor systems.
Sensor Systems are already responsible for £2.3B of revenue per annum in Scotland and the are world leading companies with significant bases in Scotland who contribute to this. With the advent of low cost, highly sophisticated sensor platforms such as mobile phones and tablets, the world is literally bristling with sensors collecting data. ‘The challenge’ says Duncan Bremner, programme manager for S3C, ‘is to gather this data to gether and convert it into information so we can us it to inform decisions. Historically we have been data poor, trying to extract the most from each and every piece of data; now we are data rich, and at risk of drowning in all this additional data. An important area for the S3C is to develop analysis and visualisation skills to help us manage this sea of data’.
