Sensors in the Defence Industry: Webinar & Funding Call
Call launch 5 Feb 2013, online webinar 12.30pm
The MOD’s Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE) is the first point of contact for anyone with a disruptive technology, new process or innovation that has a potential defence application. CDE funds research into novel high-risk, high-potential-benefit innovations sourced from the broadest possible range of science and technology providers, including academia and small companies, to enable development of cost-effective capability advantage for UK Armed Forces. CDE is the entry point for new science and technology providers to defence, bringing together innovation and investment for the defence and security markets.
Signal Processing for Low Size, Weight, Power and Cost ISTAR
Platforms such as air, land and maritime vehicles, and indeed the dismounted soldier, are an integral part of the Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) process. However, in the future war-fighting environment there is likely to be a trend towards low-cost, multi-function equipment for integration onto an increasing number of platforms. This trend creates drivers for significant reduction in Size, Weight, Power and Cost (SWAPC) payloads.
Funding Call
This call is looking for innovative enablers to reduce SWAPC of sensor payloads for ISTAR. Enablers may include advanced signal processing, innovative antenna technology, novel reuse of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technology, or other fundamental enablers. Note: specific custom re-engineering of an existing piece of equipment to reduce its size is not required under this call. Power solutions should be limited to reduction in power consumption as opposed to improvements in battery technology or energy harvesting (which have been the subject of other calls).
Proposals are sought for projects of Technology Readiness Level 3-5 of 12-18 months duration. Solutions will be expected to be developed to a maturity which can take part in a live ISTAR experiment in early to mid 2014.
Visit the CDE website for information on how to join the webinar.
